The essence of astrological research is correlating biographical traits with astrological themes.
We start by gathering the charts of people who share a biographical trait (Alzheimer’s, Olympic gold medalist, singer/songwriter, etc) and look for common astrological themes. We can also select charts with a similar astrological theme and look for common biographical traits. As an example of research starting from a common biographical trait, you might peruse Mark McDonough's study on alcoholism. For research starting with common astrological themes, see Donna Cunningham’s study of Venus-Neptune aspects.
We, at AstroDatabank, pride ourselves in having the most comprehensive listing of research resources on the web. You'll find research studies, book reviews, web listings and we are always looking for more research studies to publish on the web site. Astrology researchers is vital to the improvement and credibility of the field. We are doing every thing we can to support people who do astrology research.
All research starts with lots of high quality data. Lois Rodden's AstroDatabank contains 28,000 data – all rated for accuracy using the Rodden Rating system. All the data is tagged with over 660 biographical traits – each one a potential research study. Ninety percent of the astrological research done today consists of printing out lots of charts and looking for common astrological themes. Astrology research software speeds up this process by allowing you to look at multiple factors in more charts. It also helps you to be more rigorous in your discovery making process.

How to Choose Software for Astrology Research
Many people ask me, 'If I have AstroDatabank, do I need JigSaw?' or the reverse. The two programs are very different and complimentary. They both filter records based on astrological criteria, but that's no big feat. Every charting program in our astrology software shop does that.
JigSaw
What's great about JigSaw as a research tool is that it provides quick graphs of an enormous amount of different astrological factors and it does so in seconds. It also makes control groups so you can find out if the anomalies you find in your experimental data are an astrological discovery or an astronomical artifact. For example, did you know that you are three times more likely to find a Mars-Sun conjunction than an opposition and twice as likely to find a Mars-Sun semi-sextile
than a square? If you found these differences in a group of sports champions you might think this was significant, but that's just the astronomical nature of the Mars-Sun relationship. Read Rest of Article |
