An Interview with TimePassages author Henry Seltzer
Henry, what are your three favorite features in TimePassages?
The ease of use is very important. I want speed when I'm working with a client. So I like being able to go back and forth from the Natal chart to the Transiting bi-wheel and the progressions easily. Also it is very handy to see how close an aspect is (and whether applying or separating) by putting the mouse on it. The quality of the graphics and the use of meaningful color is also quite important to me and how the closer aspects stand out when looking at the chart. Then, for others, the Chiron interpretations have gotten a lot of attention, in their writing style and accuracy. In general, the interpretations that I have written have been extremely well-received, and that's enormously gratifying to me. I've even had the honor of being told that these interpretations 'change people's lives.'
How did you get into the business of building astrology software?
I was doing a lot of astrology and wasn't satisfied with any of the current software. This was back in 1985 so there wasn't the variety that we have today. I started building for the Macintosh and switched to Windows when it became more popular. Today we are the only Western astrology software that runs on both Windows and Mac!
Are there any areas of astrology that hold a special appeal to you and thus may be covered in extra depth in your program?
I would have to say Chiron, as far as interpreting the chart. I think that Chiron is a very significant chart factor, as necessary for getting the picture as the outer planets! I really think we have 11 significant planetary factors including Chiron. TimePassages optionally includes Chiron in the planetary patterns that we analyze automatically like the 'bowl' or the 'funnel' chart shapes.
What is your vision for the future of Vedic astrology software 5-10 years from now?
I think we have started the ball rolling with TimePassages in terms of ease of use. Software users expect ease of use. Specifically for TimePassages, we will be adding more features, like midpoints and next retrograde station for transiting planets, but we will be making them highly available, with a key press or mouse click that gives a drop-down window with the information. We are all about gaining access to meaningful information in a speedy way! Sometimes, to be useful, 'less is more' – provided it is the right information.
