'Pocket PC Astrology at Your Fingertips!''

With the freedom of the Pocket PC, you can easily enter and display astrology charts anywhere, anytime with Astracadabra.

Astracadabra has the calculation accuracy of the Swiss Ephemeris, the convenience of the full ACS PC Atlas for city or town lookups and the core features of astrology that you have come to expect from a professional astrological software package.

Astracadabra is written by Neville Lang, a keen student of astrology since 1970. Most of these years were devoted to studying the various techniques of western astrology such as Traditional, Psychological, Cosmobiology and Medieval. In recent years he has focused on the study of Vedic astrology techniques and now specializes in this field of astrology. Neville Lang is also an accomplished systems analyst and programmer.

  • Aspect Toolbar allows you to display one or more aspects in the middle of a chart. Great for studying each type of aspect.
  • Time Stepper allows you to step either a single chart or bi-wheel using increments of second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year.
  • Adjust Ascendant feature enables you to enter a sign and degree and, optionally, a minute and second of a degree to calculate a birth time.

The report also displays planet and house significators, Ruling Planets (RPs), indicators if an RP is in a Star or Sub of a retrograde planet or if a RP is retrograde itself, except Rahu and Ketu. The Badhaka and Maraka planets are also listed.
  • For the KP system, an orb between 0 degrees and 5 degrees can be optionally set placing a planet in the next house if a planet is within this orb of the next house cusp and is used in significator calculations. The KP Horary feature calculates a chart after a number between 1 and 249 has been entered and the corresponding Ascendant determined. This feature is particularly useful where multiple Horary questions are asked in a short space of time.
  • The Krishnamurti New zodiac option uses the new Krishnamurti ayanamsa as at 2003. The original Krishnamurti ayanamsa can also be selected. If you purchase a memory card for your Pocket PC, Astracadabra can be moved to that memory card, freeing up your Pocket PC's RAM.

Computer System Requirements :

Take this information to your computer salesperson.

ASTRACADABRA REQUIREMEMNTS:

The general rule is that the device must have: (a) 64MB RAM (or more), (b) a touch-sensitive rectangular screen (not a square screen) and (c) must use Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, Windows Mobile 5.0 or the latest Windows Mobile 6. I have not tested Astracadabra v1.7 on the new Windows Mobile 6 operating system yet but judging from the technical specifications, it should work fine on these newer devices.

For Pocket PCs, any of the 'HP' iPAQ models or the 'Dell' Axim are suitable with some exceptions where devices use only 32MB RAM or have the square screen.

For Pocket PC Phones, the number of devices is growing by the day. In Australia, any models in the 'i-mate' range, the 'O2' range, 'Dopod' range or 'HTC' range. In the USA, most of these devices are controlled by the phone companies themselves but the equivalent 'brands' are the 'Cingular', 'Sprint' and 'T-Mobile' devices, to name a few.

The Astracadabra manufacture is happy to continue to confirm any specific brand and model with customers if they are not sure. It is a murky world out there with all of the different brands and models with some devices simply not compatible with Astracadabra.

Since the launch of Windows Mobile 6, Microsoft has again changed the naming conventions. Any device without a phone is now called a 'PDA' and any device with a phone in it is now called a 'Smartphone'. So, the old name of 'Pocket PC' and 'Phone Edition' are now gone. Further, the different flavors of the operating system have changed too. What we used to call a Pocket PC is now called a PDA running Windows Mobile 6 Classic or Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC software. A Phone Edition (what I called a Pocket PC Phone) is now a Smartphone running Windows Mobile 6 Professional or Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC Phone Edition, and what we called a Smartphone (no touch-sensitive screen) is a Smartphone running Windows Mobile 6 Standard or Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphone. The old 'Smartphone' name was never compatible with Astracadabra but it is added here for completeness.

You need a Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition with:
  • Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, Windows Mobile 2003 or Pocket PC 2002 operating system.
  • A minimum of 64Mb RAM and a minimum of 32 MB ROM.
  • A touch screen.
  • A desktop or laptop PC with a version of Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
  • Please note that Astracadabra CANNOT be installed onto:
--A Smartphone (a phone with some Pocket PC functionality), typically one without a touch screen.
--A Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition with a square screen (240x240 pixels or 480x480 pixels).
--A Windows Mobile 5.0 device that has a security configuration of 'Locked' or 'Third-Party Signed'. Some telephone companies may set Pocket PC Phone Editions in one of these two security modes. Experience so far suggests that no telephone company has used these security settings yet.

If your Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition has Windows Mobile 5.0 as its operating system and you have Windows XP on your desktop or laptop PC then make sure your Windows XP has been updated to Service Pack 2.
