If it were possible to know exactly what was going to happen in your life, it would not make you happy, even if the path ahead were destined to be easy. Happiness is much more elusive than that. 
If you are feeling mellow, hanging out on the beach is paradise. If you are feeling under pressure to get something important accomplished (e.g. Saturn square Mars), doing nothing on the beach is hell. The key to happiness is choosing actions that are congruent with one's inner state.
We often struggle to build a balanced life juggling focus on work, love, children, health, friendships, learning, creativity, spirituality, etc. Yet when we look back on our lives we find that life asks us to focus on specific areas of our lives at different times. Sometimes you struggle to develop your love life and sometimes it just flows. Wouldn't it be great to know when to stop beating your head against a wall so that you could focus on the area of your life that would respond best to your attentions?
Astrology is the most useful tool I know for keying into the areas of your life that need the most focus and aligning with the challenges that come your way. An astrological forecast report helps you make better decisions to plan your life, like looking at a weather forecast when deciding between a picnic and a movie. Astrology tells you when it is best to look for new opportunities, make minor adjustments, consider major changes, persevere when things seem bleak, or take a breather and come back at another time.
Jung stated it very succinctly, 'That which we refuse happens to us as fate.' If we align ourselves with the challenges symbolically presented in transits, things go more smoothly. If we reject the challenge, nasty things appear to happen to us out of the blue. We may lose a job, lover, or our health. We consult astrological forecast reports to improve our timing and stay in the flow. We know when to persevere and when to let is all fall down. I keep mine on hand 'because timing is everything.'
Reports are great, but why should you buy the software to print an unlimited supply of reports? What benefits are there to having forecasting software? You can:

Professional astrologers sell forecast reports to their clients to help give a more complete service. There is far too much to cover in an hour and half session. Providing clients a forecast report keeps astrology in their daily lives. When the report is done in 3-12 months, they will be inclined to come back to you for another reading or another report.
If you are serious about learning astrology, you should have a forecast report handy. You only get a few aspects in your natal chart, but through transits you get first hand experience of a far wider array of aspects.
These reports also make great presents that you can give again and again.
How to Choose Forecast Report Writing Software
The biggest challenge in writing a forecast report is finding a way to give the client an understanding of which events are the most important. It is rather daunting to be presented with a 16-100 page report consisting mostly of one-paragraph-long descriptions of upcoming astrological events.
There are three basic approaches that forecast report writers use to help clients 'separate the forest from the trees':
1. Writing longer descriptions for more significant events.
Destiny and Decisions and Sky Log do the best job of writing longer descriptions for the more important events. When the description is twice as long as the one next to it you get the idea that this is a notable astrological event. The extra text is there to give the client advice on how to deal with the major events. The bigger events deserve more advice and these reports do the best job of giving it. Yet one also longs for a more direct method of communicating the relative importance of each event.
