Michael Munkasey's Company Database contains company information on over 11,000 companies. The company information is delivered on a CD-R in an easy-to-read and -use format. There are currently over 5600 active companies in the data base and over 1600 mutual or electronic traded funds. There are also about 4000 historical records for ticker symbols which have been removed from the NYSE, the AMEX or the NASDAQ. In addition to the company information there are several 'information-style' files included in the overall package, such as:

• The same company database in both spreadsheet and a text format in case you prefer one format over the other.
• An explanation of the company 'classification codes' used.
• An explanation of how stock symbols are coded by the exchanges.
• A list of the state capitals and some foreign capitals where the companies are incorporated with their geographic latitudes, longitudes and time zones. Also included are the latitudes & longitudes for some foreign exchanges.
• A list of the abbreviations used within the data set.
• An explanation of how to work with and use the data.

Many companies in the database also show their official state incorporation time. About 300 companies have first trade (FT) times associated with them. Try finding these anywhere else! Munkasey gets these on the day that the company first trades by watching the minute by minute ticks on the exchanges. Gathering these first trade times is difficult and time consuming. Incidentally, the 'average' time for a first trade to be effected is about 11:30 AM – not the market opening time of 9:30 AM.
