The Merlin report produces astrological interpretations in simple language, uncluttered by astrological jargon. All the astrological terms (even planets and signs) are tucked away like footnotes at the bottom of each chapter. For those who know astrology, it can be a fun guessing game to read the paragraphs and then look down at the footnote to see if you can guess which aspect was being described.

The average report is 14-16 pages.

Structure

The report is basically a review of element balance and the planets interpreted by sign, house and aspects.

Chapter 1: General Characteristics

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

Chapter 4: Mental Interests and Abilities

Chapter 5: Emotions: Moods, Feelings, Romance

Chapter 6: Drive and Ambition: How You Achieve Your Goals

Chapter 7: Growth and Expansion: Areas That You Enjoy

Chapter 8: Areas That Challenge You Or Are Difficult For You

Chapter 9: Originality and Imagination: Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive

Chapter 10: Generational Influences: Your Age Group

I'll bet you can guess which planet is covered in each chapter. Chapter 9 and 10 are a little different. Chapter 9 covers Uranus, Neptune and Pluto aspecting inner planets and midpoints. Chapter 10 covers Uranus, Neptune and Pluto by sign and aspecting each other.

Style

The chapters have real world titles like 'Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others' (the Ascendant) and 'Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation' (the Sun). The programmer and writer worked together to produce 'glue' sentences which make the report read more like a narrative and less like a list. Here are two examples of some 'glue' text:

From the Introduction to 'Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others'…
The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the 'The Inner You: Your Real Motivation', which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case 'the inner you' may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.

From the first paragraph of 'Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation' …
Not only are you restless and adventurous (as mentioned in the previous chapter), you have a rebellious, unconventional streak also, and you really want to have a significant impact on the world. You are a very active person and likely to be involved in community affairs as well as successful in your business or career.

The Merlin report strikes a nice balance between giving a good amount of detail while cleverly hiding the underlying list by using glue paragraphs and putting the astrological details at the end of each chapter.

Options

The Merlin report can be printed 'Book style' or 'Factor with Interpretation.' 'Book style' lists the astrological factors at the end of each chapter. 'Factor with Interpretation' lists each astrological factor followed by a paragraph of interpretation. 'Book style' is best for the astrologically naive client because it puts the scary astrological lingo at the end of each chapter like footnotes.

Merlin can also be printed with midpoint interpretations and pictures of each planets' sign. If the client does not provide a birth time, there is an option that automatically removes house, AS, and MC information.

Merlin is also available in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Norwegian, and Hebrew.

System Requirements

To run the Merlin report one must have a copy of Kepler charting software or Pegasus. Pegasus is Cosmic Patterns' budget charting and report program ($99). Kepler and Pegasus make the wheels and calculate the astrological data used by the report.

Kepler requires:

  • Pentium PC or PowerMAC with Virtual PC
  • Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP
  • 32 MB RAM memory or more
  • 320 MB disk space

Kepler also includes an additional 220 megabytes of graphics and sound files which can be left on the CD, or optionally may be installed on the hard drive. Speakers are not required but are recommended.

Pegasus requires:

  • Pentium PC or PowerMAC with Virtual PC
  • Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP
  • 32 MB RAM
  • 15 MB disk space

Pegasus can print natal wheels and lists of transits and progressions but it can not do bi-wheels, tri-wheels, midpoints, harmonics, mapping and a host of other goodies found in the Kepler program. Its atlas is also limited to 2-3 major cities for US state and non-US country. You can upgrade to Kepler from Pegasus and any time for $199.
